LeafConnect Privacy Policy

LeafConnect is an independent, open-source companion app for Nissan Leaf owners. It is not made by, endorsed by, or affiliated with Nissan Motor Co. or NissanConnect.

In short

LeafConnect has no servers of its own. It talks directly from your phone to Nissan's own systems, using the NissanConnect/MyNissan account you already have.

Your password goes straight to Nissan and is never stored. Your vehicle's status and location are cached only on your device, so the app can show them instantly. Nothing is sent to the developer, sold, or shared with any third party.

What LeafConnect accesses

Your NissanConnect / MyNissan credentials

When you sign in, your email and password are sent directly and only to Nissan's own identity servers, over an encrypted connection — the same login flow the official NissanConnect app uses. LeafConnect never stores your password, and never transmits it anywhere except to Nissan.

After signing in, Nissan issues an access/refresh token. Only this token — never your password — is stored locally on your device, so you don't have to sign in every time. It never leaves your device except to authenticate LeafConnect's own requests to Nissan's API.

Your account email

Stored locally on your device only, to personalize small parts of the interface (like the initials shown in the account menu). It's never sent anywhere besides Nissan's own login endpoint.

Vehicle data

Once signed in, LeafConnect fetches your vehicle's data directly from Nissan's own API, using your authenticated session:

battery & range charging status climate / HVAC odometer GPS location trip history

This is displayed in the app and cached locally on your device so it loads instantly on launch. It is never sent to the developer or any third party — only back to Nissan's own API when refreshing.

Vehicle actions

Actions you trigger — starting charging, starting or stopping climate control, honking the horn, flashing the lights — send a request directly from your device to Nissan's API, the same way NissanConnect's own app does. LeafConnect doesn't log or store a history of the actions you take.

What we don't do

  • No analytics, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs
  • No advertising
  • No account creation — you sign in with your existing NissanConnect/MyNissan account
  • No data sold, shared, or sent to the developer or any third party
  • No backend servers — the app talks directly to Nissan's own API

App review accounts

For the Google Play and App Store review process, LeafConnect includes a demo account that never connects to Nissan at all. Signing in with it shows fictional vehicle data generated entirely on-device, and every action only changes that local, fictional data.

Deleting your data

Everything LeafConnect stores lives only on your device. Logging out, or uninstalling the app, removes all of it immediately. There's nothing to delete on a server, because there is no server.

Children's privacy

LeafConnect requires an existing Nissan vehicle account to be of any use, and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
